in the Athletics Victoria South East Region Shield track & field
competition in the summer (October to March) and the XCRO9
cross country and road racing series in
the winter (April to September)

Victoria Shield Track and Field competition
A reminder that the Athletics Victoria Shield Track and Field competition
kicks
off for 2009-10 this Saturday 10 October. The first meeting for the South East
Region will be at Ballam Park in Frankston. A programme for the first round,
a summary of the Shield
Fixture and the location of our three competition venues
is attached.
Not registered yet?
If you have not yet registered for 2009-10, our registrar Claudia will be at
the track tommorrow before the commencement of competition to take registrations.
Uniform items will also be available for sale. If you are still thinking of signing
up, you can compete tommorrow as an "invitational" athlete. Simply
visit the red tent at the track or apporoach one of our members for assistance.
Where will we meet?
CCA will be stationed at the northern end of the track near the water jump. We
will have a tent for shelter.
New Rules
There will be a number of new rules this season. These include:
* Maximum
of 15 competitors in each field heat.
* Maximum 8 attempts in the High Jump
* Maximum one practice start per athlete per race.
* Hurdles competitors must sign-in 30 minutes before the first hurdle event
is scheduled
* Relay teams must be lodged 30 minutes before the first relay is scheduled
* Pegging will be used for Javelin, Discus and Hammer Throw
* Only the athete themselves or their team manger may register for a field
event
* From 1/1/10, all false starts will result in disqualification.
* To qualify for finals, athletes must compete in 1/3 of prelininary rounds
and record one valid performance in the particular event/age group.
Duty
As previously mentioned, this season CCA will be required to provide club helpers
to assist in conducting events. Our first round of duty will be round 2.
A list of our duties will be circulated on Saturday to allow people to
volunteer for positions. Vacancies will be filled on a roster basis. The
load will be spread across the members. If we fail to provide club helpers,
our teams and athletes can be disqualified or we can be fined.
Training
Don't forget that training is on at Edwin Flack Reserve in Berwick on Sunday
Mornings (9am) and Thursday evenings (6.30pm). An updated training timetable
will be released in the next week.
