Interaths

This season Casey is offering InterAths for Athletes in the 15-17 Age Group.  The purpose of InterAths is to assist Athletes to make the transition from Little Athletics to Senior Athletics.  Unfortunately, the drop out rates of teenagers from sports such as athletics is very high.  There are many reasons for the high drop out rates, but a key factor for country and outer-suburban regions such as Casey, are the long travel distances to senior athletics venues.

Athletes registered with the VLAA in InterAths are also eligible to compete at Athletics Victoria venues, including Victorian and Australian Championship  events.  Athletes will receive both VLAA and Athletics Australia registration numbers.  InterAths competitors will generally compete in events with the age 13-15 Age Groups.  However, competition with athletes from other Centres within the region are currently being organised.

The InterAths athletes will be encouraged to assist with coaching and to provide positive role models to the other age groups.  Hopefully, in years to come Casey will form its own senior athletics club and we will see some of our children go on to enjoy athletics as seniors and the gifted few to go on and represent our country.

Aileen Hiskins is the Casey InterAths Coordinator and he will be happy to provide athletes and parents with additional information (9707 2646).
