On Track

On Track is an athletic skills program that will provide all children with the basics required for running, jumping, throwing, passing, etc. On Track is based around providing lots of practice opportunities, quality instructions and motivation for participating children.

The children learn all the skills required by using modified equipment for activities which are all designed in a FUN environment.

Sessions
There are two sessions each Saturday when On Track is offered (refer to handbook program). The children begin with a warm up game and then they go on to learn a specific skill component (eg run) by playing games and competing in a modified competition using the component they have learnt. The children then have a toilet and drink break. Generally an event will follow in line with the skill that they have learnt, to reinforce what they have learnt (eg 100 metres).

The children will then return to do another session learning another new skill component (eg vertical jump) followed by another event related to that skill (eg long jump).

At the end of the second On Track session, all participating children will receive an On Track ticket indicating what skill components they have learnt for the day.

After all sessions of On Track have been completed, the children will be assessed and presented with a certificate for achieving all the necessary skills during the season.

Parent Helpers
The success of On Track largely depends on parent assistance. During On Track, we require the following helpers:

•           On Track recorder (record attendance of the children, prepare and hand out weekly On Track tickets)

•           Team manager for boys and girls (assist in running the activities)

•           4 to 6 Parent helpers (assist in running the activities)

Being a parent helper is a great way to learn and be involved with your child and other children. Please note that you are not permitted on the athletic track unless you have volunteered as a parent helper.

If anyone is interested in becoming an accredited On Track Co-ordinator or helper, then please see us. We can arrange to run a co-ordinator/helper workshop. The workshops are free and cover theory and practice in a fun environment. It gives your children an opportunity to get instructions required to help them on their way as little athletes.

Given that we are relatively new at running On Track we are always open to feedback and suggestions that could help improve the way we run On Track. Please see Jackie 5941 2189 or Karen 9796 0526 if you have any comments or suggestions.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
