Training is
held at the Edwin Flack Reserve, Manuka Road Berwick, found
on Melways map 111 H07 .
Parents & guardians
must be present
while their children are training.
Wet Days : If it's still raining
by 5:00 pm on a training
night,Training will be cancelled for the night.
Hot Days :Training will be cancelled if
the temperature reaches 33 degrees by 5:00
pm
Training commences from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm. on :-
Tuesday 22nd
September 2009 for under 6-9 athletes and on
Thursday 17th
September for athletes under 10 and up.
Training on Tuesday is focused on basic techniques
of track and field events for the younger children, including warm up, activity
drills, event skills and a warm down.
Training on Thursday is focused on learning more advanced
skills of the track
and field events.
If
you have children in both age groups we recommend that children
attend the Thursday night training session.
If
you are interested in distance running 800/1500m an earlier training
session is conducted on Thursdays from 4.40 to 5.30.
Parents are welcome
to assist at training sessions. This assistance can be in many ways, for
example helping to set up the equipment, assisting coaches and
packing up the equipment. Volunteering parents need to
sign on as ordinary members to be covered by public liability
insurance.
Remember,
the coaches are volunteering to give up their
time for the benefit of the children.
Training For Region & State Track& Field Events
A few coaches have made themselves available on Wednesday Night starting at 5pm
at the Casey track for any athletes from under 9s to 15s interested in any specialised
training leading up to Region /state events.
If you are interested in improving your skills during this time ,come on down,
or see Paul Olsson or Rod Prime at the Track on Saturday morning.
Walks Training will be held Thursday's starting at 5:30 see Karen Wynen

Region
and State Championships
Athletes
in the Under 9 to 15 Age Groups are able to compete
in the Region and State championships
The
events are:
- Relays
(October-early December)
- Track
and field (February-March)
- State
Multi Event (Early March)
- Cross
Country (Winter Season May July)
Additional
Training for Regional and State Events will be made
available closer to the scheduled events. Its
highly recommended that athletes attend training sessions
to prepare correctly for each Championship.

Junior
Development Squad
The Junior Development Squad (JDS) offers training
and coaching programs for athletes in the U12 - U15's age
groups, who have met qualifying standards.
Training
with other keen and enthusiastic squad members is both
fun and motivational, and helps develop new friendships
based on an enjoyment of athletics.
The
emphasis on learning new athletic skills, and improving
existing skills, is in a friendly and supportive environment.
