What
about unleashed dogs that cause a nuisance?
Whilst you
may exercise your dog off lead in a Council reserve you are
not allowed to let it be a nuisance to another person using
the reserve.
If you dog
rushes at, chases, bites or attacks a person you can be liable
for any damages your dog causes as well as be prosecuted for
the offence in Court.
It is important
for dog owners to remember that they must exercise their rights
with common sense and that includes making sure their dog is
always near them and able to be restrained if required.
Dog owners
must always ensure they clean up and properly dispose of any
mess if their dog defecates in a public place.
What penalties apply?
Owners of
dogs that breach the Order or a Local Law can be issued with
a $100.00 on the spot fine by an Authorised Officer of Council.
Our officers
carry out regular patrols of Council’s reserves and are either
in a clearly defined uniform or else carry appropriate identification
with them. Phone 9705 5200 to request attendance until 6pm.
